Pray for Terri Schiavo

Please continue to pray for Terri Schiavo. Her life is in the balance. Pray for those who can prevent the removal of her feeding tube. Pray also for Michael Schiavo that he would have a change of heart and stop pursuing the death of Terri. The following is a letter to the editor which I submitted to a couple of Florida newspapers:

Dear Editor:

I am writing to express my concern that the state of Florida is permitting a young woman to die because her husband wants to see her dead. Terri Schiavo has committed no crime, but the state of Florida is prepared to allow her to be put to death by starvation and dehydration.

Terri Schiavo is not on life-support equipment. She is not in a coma. Nor is she in a permanent vegetative state. In fact, she is not unconscious. She is not suffering from a terminal illness. There is ample evidence to indicate that Terri Schiavo is conscious and able to respond to stimuli.

Terri Schiavo simply requires what each of us need: food and water. The feeding tube provides food and water for her until she can receive the proper therapy that could enable her to learn to swallow. Unfortunately, that therapy has been denied to her by her husband, Michael Schiavo, who claims to be acting on behalf of Terri's best interests.

Michael Schiavo lives with another woman by whom he has fathered children. By his actions, Mr. Schiavo appears to have "moved on" to another life. Why not allow Terri to be cared for by her parents as Michael Schiavo pursues his own life? Instead, by allowing Michael Schiavo to remain as her guardian, the state of Florida is helping a man to kill his wife.
